Aoe2 windows 7 colour fix

Once you are done playing, exit Age of Empires. Then click Applications, New Task, and type Explorer in the dialog. Click OK and your taskbar and desktop will return.

Note: kudos to TechSmith Snagit which was able to capture the screens successfully; the first two capture utilities I tried could not do so. I had to set DirectX as the input type and use a timed capture.

Thanks for the tip. Got him III for Christmas, not impressed to far. Thank you so much i have had this problem for so long and this finally fixed it. It was so simple and quick thanks again. There is a way to automate this. Double-clicking on it should now kill explorer.

After closing the game Windows Explorer should be normally open again. When hitting OK the process should start normally. Now you can make a shortcut of this batch file like any other file. I have mine on the desktop.

Your desktop might look odd right before the game opens, but it is part of disabling full color palettes such. Thanks Lord Basse for this fabulous fix! I tried the one in the video and it does indeed work, but I personally prefer this file, simply because I don't have to switch themes constantly to get it to work.

But the video's way is more practical for anyone who can stand having the Windows Classic skin permanently.
